How to Choose the Right Masking Tape
Think about the surface. Rough or dusty surfaces need a stronger hold, so general purpose tape works well. Smooth, painted or delicate surfaces suit painters tape, which is designed for easy removal.
Think about how long it stays on. General purpose tape is best removed within a day or two. For longer jobs, painters tape is less likely to leave residue behind.
Think about heat. Standard tape isn't made for ovens or spray booths. If the job involves baking or powder coating, choose a high-temperature grade.
Pick the right width. 18mm suits labelling and fine edging. 24mm is the all-rounder. 36mm and 48mm cover wider areas faster.

What's the difference between masking tape and painters tape?
Both are paper tapes. Painters tape has a gentler adhesive, so it gives cleaner paint lines and comes off delicate surfaces more easily. General purpose tape grips harder and suits labelling, bundling and everyday jobs.
How long can I leave masking tape on?
General purpose tape is best removed within a day or two, especially in sun or heat. Painters tape is made for longer jobs. If you're unsure, test a small piece on the surface first.
Can masking tape handle heat?
Standard tape can soften and leave residue when heated. For spray booths, bake cycles and powder coating, use a high-temperature grade such as our 1250 High Performance tape.

Do you sell masking tape in bulk?
Yes. You can buy single rolls or full cartons. As an example, Husky 1220 comes 48 rolls to a carton in 18mm, 36 in 24mm and 24 in 36mm and 48mm. Ask us about pricing for regular orders.
Which width should I choose?
18mm is ideal for labels and fine edges. 24mm is the most popular all-round size. 36mm and 48mm are better for covering wider areas or masking off larger sections.
