Why Use Coloured Tape?
Use a different colour for urgent orders, key customers, returns or each site, and your team can spot the right box from across the warehouse. We can also print your logo or message on coloured tape.
Sort at a Glance
A colour on the seal tells pickers and drivers what a carton is before they read a single label.
Flag Priority Orders
Red or orange tape makes urgent and same-day orders stand out on the dispatch floor.
Fewer Packing Errors
Give each customer, batch or site its own colour, so cartons don't end up on the wrong pallet.
Match Your Brand
Seal parcels in your brand colour, or add your logo with custom printed tape.
Colour-Coding Ideas
There's no fixed rule for what each colour means, so set a system that suits your warehouse. Here are some common ways businesses use each colour.
| Colour | Common use |
|---|---|
| Red | Urgent or priority orders, and stock on hold for checking |
| Orange | Returns, and anything that needs to stand out on a busy floor |
| Yellow | Handle with care, or goods waiting on paperwork |
| Green | Checked and ready to dispatch |
| Dark Blue and Light Blue | A key customer, a second site, or chilled goods |
| Purple and Pink | Brand matching, promotions and gift orders |
| Black | A neat, discreet seal on black or printed boxes |
| White | A clean look on white cartons, and easy to write on |

Acrylic adhesive is a good all-rounder for everyday cartons. It unwinds quietly and holds well over time. For cool rooms, freezers or dusty recycled board, choose a natural rubber packing tape instead.
How to Set Up a Colour-Coding System
1. Decide what matters most. Pick the few things your team needs to spot quickly, such as urgent orders, returns or a big customer.
2. Keep it simple. Three or four colours are easier to remember than ten. Save the rest for special jobs.
3. Put a chart on every bench. A printed key next to each tape gun stops mix-ups when new staff start.
4. Keep each colour loaded. Set up one dispenser per colour so packers never grab the wrong roll.

Common Questions
What is coloured packing tape used for?
Mostly for colour coding. Teams use it to flag urgent orders, separate customers or batches, mark stock for different sites, and match parcels to their brand. It seals cartons just like standard packing tape, so you label and seal in one step.
Is coloured packing tape as strong as clear or brown tape?
It's made the same way as standard packing tape, with a polypropylene film and an acrylic adhesive, so it seals everyday cartons in the same way. For very heavy or overfilled boxes, ask us about a heavier-duty tape.
What size are the rolls?
Each roll is 48mm wide and 66m long, which fits standard 48mm pistol grip tape dispensers.
Can I write on coloured tape?
Yes, with a permanent marker. Writing shows up best on the lighter colours like white, yellow and orange. On darker colours, use a white or silver paint marker instead.
Does it work in cold rooms or freezers?
Acrylic adhesive can be slow to grab cold or dusty cardboard. If you pack in a cool room or freezer, natural rubber packing tape is the better choice.
Can you print a logo or message on coloured tape?
Yes. We arrange custom printed tape on a coloured background, so you can add your logo, website or a handling message. Send us your artwork and quantities for a quote.
How is coloured tape sold?
It's sold by the carton of 36 rolls. Tell us which colours you need and how many cartons, and we'll send you a quote.
